SOUTH CAROLINA SHOOTING
UPDATE II (12:15 P.M. EDT): SHOOTER CAUGHT
UPDATE (11:05 P.M. EDT): SHOOTER IDENTIFIED
We hope the media take it slowly while reporting about the horrible crime that left nine people dead in Charleston, South Carolina. The initial response of a white man killing nine blacks at a prominent church has been a “hate crime.”
That may be the case, but recent reporting on a variety of incidents, from the Boston Marathon to the Baltimore riots, has provided bad information. We think it’s better to get the story right rather than fast.
BRI WI KEEPS A JOB
In a terrible blow to journalism ethics, NBC News has decided to keep Brian Williams in the fold.
According to CNN, Williams will be relegated to MSNBC, the lowest-rated cable news operation, while Lester Holt will continue to host the evening news.
It is somewhat interesting that CNN’s media reporter Brian Stelter apparently did not have the scoop. For details, see http://cnnmon.ie/1Ljfs0k
CLINTON AND THE MEDIA
Hillary Clinton’s campaign has developed a hit list against the media, leaving journalists from a variety of news operations unable to ask questions during any event. The list includes reporters from Fox News and The Daily Mail, a British publication.
“The Clinton system is just one small way in which the former secretary of state is conducting her campaign as if she is already the president,” noted Byron York of The Washington Examiner.
