Critics of an English-first policy complain that it is racist, but just 19% agree that requiring people to speak English is a form of racism or bigotry. Seventy-two percent (72%) say putting English first is not racist or bigoted, according to a poll from Rasmussen. Seventy-three percent (73%) of Likely U.S. Voters believe that when people move to the United States from other parts of the world, they should adopt America’s culture, language and heritage. Only 15% think newcomers should maintain the culture, language and heritage of their home country. Twelve percent (12%) are not sure.
